Click this link to open GreenGeeks in a new tab, and then follow the steps outlined below to set up your blog in less than 15 minutes.
Special: Save now, GreenGeeks has a special offer for StartingABlog101 visitors on Hosting for just $3.95/month instead of $9.95/month. That’s a huge discount that you should take advantage of while available.
Go to GreenGeeks and then click this button, “get started now.”
Here you will see two options to get your domain sorted. If you already own a domain name from another registrar, say, Go Daddy) you can transfer that domain name to GreenGeeks. Just put this domain name into the box where it says “I want to Use an Existing Domain.”
If you are getting a new domain name for the first time, you will put that domain name into the box on the left to see if its available. Then click “next.”
Once you find the domain name that you want to use, you will see the next page which says Congratulations at the top. You may need to make a slight change on the domain name to get one. For example, if you originally chose www.startmyfirstblog.com and it was already taken, I might have changed the .com to a .net or maybe revise the name to www.startmyveryfirstblog.com. If your first choice isn’t available, don’t totally give up on it, see if you can come up with something similar.
Once you do, begin typing in your account information as seen below:
After you have entered in your account information, scroll down and select your package.
Important Tip: You may feel that a 3-year package is too much since you’re starting out, but the reality is that with GreenGeeks, you can cancel and receive a refund. The 3-year package is the cheapest plan per month that I recommend to everyone should go ahead and choose in order to save money.
Then simply enter in your billing information and click “Create Account & Get Started.”
After you’ve signed up, your account will be verified & activated by GreenGeeks staff. You will receive an e-mail from them containing your GreenGeeks Account Manager username and password. This is what you will use to log in to manage your hosting account.
Use the account manager log in information from the email above at the login prompt:
After you’ve logged in, you’ll be presented with your GreenGeeks hosting dashboard. You will have to click “cPanel Login” to access your hosting account.
You will now be inside of cPanel. You will see many icons. Scroll down and find the box called “Softaculous Apps Installer”. Click on “WordPress”.
You will see the WordPress overview page within the application installer. Click on the blue button “Install Now”.
Now you will be seeing the installation setup page. Scroll down and change your admin username and admin password to something you can remember. Leave everything else the way it is, we will change it later.
Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page and click the blue button labeled “Install”. You can enter in your email address to send the installation information to you in the box below.
Congratulations! That wasn’t hard was it? You’ve now installed WordPress and your very first blog is setup and ready to be customized.
Let’s head on over to Step 3 where I will show you how to configure your WordPress blog like a pro.
