Many people have blogs these days. Some like to have them just because they want to be able to say that they do. Others are more serious and are willing to put some work into it, including driving traffic. There are many different methods increase blog traffic, but behind all of them is persistence. Once you realize that they are not going to come just because you build it is the first step in the right direction. Once you have that, you can apply these other five methods.
1. Develop Unique Content
Before you can drive people to your blog and keep them coming back, you need to have something on your site that they are willing to come back for. In other words, they need to be able to find better quality articles and posts than they can find elsewhere – or at least have a different twist to the information you give. This will give you an edge over competitors, and you also need to be regular in posting new content.
Your unique content also needs to show that you are an expert in the field of your blog’s topic. Quickly written content that reveals little thought is not going to be enough. You need a plan for your content and to have blog ideas and articles written ahead of time to ensure you are regular with the posting.
Of course, you also should have a mailing list. This will let you put up a new post, and then inform everyone on your mailing list about each one. If you don’t have one yet, develop one by offering quality materials to those who sign up for it.
2. Repeat the Blog Post Announcements
Sometimes people don’t come to your blog simply because it may be inconvenient at the time. Repeat the announcements about each post and vary the tools used to do it at different times of the day. Don’t give up the battle to increase blog traffic after just one shot.
Some media tools you might want to use only once per post, such as emails. But other tools, such as social media, will be just as effective in bringing traffic – even if used multiple times a day. This is especially true if you do this on Twitter, which could even be done on multiple days. When doing this, however, vary your approach and message, possibly even asking questions to draw attention to it.
Some of the known experts are now saying that it is more important that you promote your blog than even writing new content. This makes a lot of sense when you realize that when people first see your announcement – on whatever media – that they may not have time at that moment to make a visit. But if they see it again later, it may be more convenient. Also, who knows how many new people will see it on the second or third time that did not see it the first time.
3. Pay for Traffic
There are many ways now that you can pay for traffic. Google Adwords is one of them, and it is certainly a very powerful way to do it. However, you want to be careful about using it because you can spend your money fast if you do not have highly targeted keywords.
Another way is to pay people to drive the traffic for you. One low cost way to do this is to pay someone on a site such as Fiverr. This may take a little experimenting to find the right individual for this task, but some of them have a lot of experience and can drive considerable worthwhile traffic.
4. Ask Influential People to Write for You
This is a very powerful tactic because it leverages the popularity of others and their social media and blogs, etc. By reaching out to key people (influencers) within your field and asking them to write something for your blog, you can greatly increase traffic to your blog. The influencer knows that they will also benefit because it will enable them to tap into your traffic as well.
Because influencers already have a lot of traffic to their own blog, you can be sure that they will send out emails, etc., to their own list. This will likely bring tons of traffic to your site for a short time, and build your popularity.
Before you ask an influencer to write a blog post for you, you want to make sure your blog is ready for the increased traffic. You want to have excellent posts already up so they will find great material, and you also want to be able to capture names on your email list. You can probably expect to pay them for the post, and you want to ensure that you expect them to promote it through their social media. You also want to be sure to provide a link on your blog and on the post to their blog or site. The larger your own list and traffic are, the more likely they are to do it, so you will want to tell them about it.
5. Go Where Your Audience Hangs Out
You will find that there are places online where people who are interested in your topic already hang out. This may be on other blogs or websites, as well as places like Reddit, StumbleUpon, forums, Facebook, etc. By hanging out in these places and making valuable contributions in terms of comments, posts, etc., you can start drawing a following from those sites to your own blog.
You can easily discover where your audience hangs out by performing a Google search, and see what sites are at the top of the list. Once you find your way to those sites, ease your way in and follow the general rules – and you will find that it will pay off with increased blog traffic.
There are an ever-growing number of ways to increase blog traffic. Find ways that work for you and continue to use the ones that are most beneficial. At the same time, be sure to experiment with new ones from time to time. Also, using more than one method at the same time is apt to produce better results than just one.
